Partnering for Young Carers’ Health and Well-Being: Co-Designing Policy Recommendations and Research Priorities for Young Carers Across Canada

In Canada, there is roughly 1.5 million young people 30 years and younger reported to provide care to family members or other loved ones who are ill, have disabilities, and/or problems related to aging. Despite this, young carers (including, children, youth, young adults) are often not recognized, seen, or supported. The purpose of this 4-year national study is to gather evidence that will inform the co-design of policies and research priorities meant to enhance the health and well-being of young carers across Canada. Central to achieving the study’s purpose are young carers co-designing the policy recommendations and research priorities by gathering evidence grounded in their experiences and providing them with a leadership role in the process. Young carers and key stakeholders from across Canada are invited to take part in the study and will participate in a number of activities including interviews, arts-based activities, and intentional discussions.
